When there is already so much to do and so little time, why on earth would you still want to journal?
There are so many benefits to journaling that you should be asking yourself “why on earth wouldn’t I journal?
Firstly, it is a way of getting things out of your head, sometimes referred to as “the cheapest form of therapy”. Nobody else needs to see what you are writing, so you can say what you like and make sense of your thoughts – it is often easier to write it down than to speak it. In the words of Robin Sharma “It offers a place where you can hold a deliberate, thoughtful conversation with yourself.”
I have made it part of my daily routine (my morning me time!) I write down my intention for the day, noting the important things that I want to achieve that day. I reflect on the previous day – what was good about it (my WINS), what didn’t go according to plan and what I can improve on. Every day I find something to be grateful for. Many a problem has been solved while writing in my journal, mainly because of the mindfulness that it invokes.
Then there is the goal setting aspect. When we commit pen to paper, whether done by writing a list or whether writing a story about what it is that we want/want to change or better in our lives, we are far more likely to realize our dreams. At the beginning of each month I write down the goals that I want to achieve. It’s nice to go back at the end of that month to see which of them I have conquered . It is so easy to beat ourselves up about what we haven’t managed to do instead of celebrating what we have done.
Personally, it is also a big part of my creative outlet, I love using my washi tape, different coloured pens, pencils and stickers. I draw, stick or stamp hearts when I love something and smiley faces when it makes me happy. Earlier this month I shared a blog on the benefits of being creative, which comes with its own set of benefits.
